Art and Design
Key Stage 3 Art & Design
At The Rural Enterprise Academy, the Key Stage 3 Art curriculum is designed to develop confident, creative learners through a practical and exploratory approach. Students are taught to investigate and respond to the world visually, using art as a form of communication and expression.
The curriculum places making and exploration at its core, enabling students to work with a broad range of materials, techniques, and processes, including drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and mixed media. Learning is carefully sequenced to build knowledge and skills over time, with opportunities for experimentation, refinement, and creative problem-solving. Students are supported through the study of artists, designers, and craftspeople, which informs their understanding of materials, techniques, and visual language.
Through structured projects and purposeful sketchbook work, students develop technical skill, visual literacy, and the ability to reflect on and improve their work. The Key Stage 3 Art curriculum provides a strong foundation for progression into further study in Art and Design.
